Location: Narragansett Community Center, Narragansett, RI
Type: indie films
The South County Short Movie Club (SCSMC) of Narragansett, RI, is casting for its current film. The SCSMC creates movies from the ground up, from concepts through filming. Our 2016 film, The Expiration Date, was an official selection of Rhode Island’s 401 Film Fest.
Our new script, written by SCSMC members, is a wild and crazy political parody set in an alternative reality where the rational and irrational collide.
Production will take place the last 2 weeks of August. The finished film is estimated to run about 20 minutes. Upon completion, it will be entered into various film festivals for extended viewing.
MALE ROLES:
Lead: The male lead will play the part of a middle aged to older person, perhaps somewhat stout. He must project the character as strong willed, short tempered, and egotistical. This actor must be able to memorize long lines and should have a flair for projecting eccentricities.
A complex character is a queen which we would like to have played by a man. He will be a drag queen with attitude, huffy and condescending, projecting an air of superiority.
Two important supporting roles are:
a 40-50 year old male who plays a yes-man to his boss.
Young man, 25 – 35, boyish, learning the job; defers to power brokers.
FEMALE ROLES:
Lead: The heroine, a lead role, is a confident, determined, assertive young woman; a runner, physically fit, 25-35 years old. She is the voice of reason and can create a variety of facial expressions.
35-49 year old woman who can make any vague statement even more ambiguous. This actor will have the ability to produce deadpan expressions and to memorize long non-sensical lines.
A third female character is 30-something and slim. She has a non-speaking part, but she plays a key role in the story.
MALE or FEMALE ROLES:
A silent hero or heroine, a very important non-speaking role. This is a critical character who, in the end, will save us all. This actor will have an expressive face.
A jester/clown who is demonstrative and excitable, and if agile, that would be a plus.
Auditions will be held on July 11, 18 and 25. For a time slot, email Joanne Haynes, southcountysmc@gmail.com with a short description of your acting experience, phone number and head shot.
