Live Theatre Bullying Prevention Project

A San Diego nonprofit organization is searching for professional actors to work on an ongoing live performance piece that is part of a bullying prevention and resiliency building project. We are looking for a diverse group of actors:
– Between ages 18 and 30 years old who can play middle to high school aged characters (all gender and ethnicities are accepted and needed including but not limited to an African American female, Asian males, Middle Eastern male, Latinas, etc.);
– To learn and perform the script provided (30 minute performance piece);
– To commit to one full day of performances at a time; and
– Who can provide their own transportation to various school sites within San Diego county.
Talent requirements: Professionally trained and confident actors, please. Must be able to work in front of a live audience of middle and high school youth. The audience remains standing just a few feet from the actors and both the audience and actors are on ground level (no stage).
Audition Requirements: Cold read. Characters in the script are middle to high school age.
Compensation and time commitment: Actors will receive $125 for a 6 to 8 hour day of work. We plan to have about 3 rehearsal days to prepare for the first show in October. After the first performance there will be a 2 hour rehearsal/meeting to prepare for each subsequent performance date. This unique project is performed at schools throughout San Diego County. Actors must provide their own transportation to each site.
Note: This work is all about social justice and youth empowerment. There is no doubt you will feel rewarded and fulfilled for doing this good work. Every time we deliver this performance, there is a student who walks away in tears feeling like there are people who understand what they’re going through. There is always one student who reflects on their actions and realizes their behaviors have not always been kind and that it’s time to change. This experience is life changing and we invite you to be part of our team.
