a capella group auditions
Location: Boston area
Type: Singers
We are an on-going a capella group looking to add a couple more female singers to our group.
?We are planning to hold auditions for all voice parts soon. In particular, if you are a high soprano who can ring the rafters with a full sound, or a low alto who can hit a Low C/B regularly, we want to meet you. Send us an email if you are interested!

What are we looking for?
We take musicality and blend with current voices pretty seriously, so think about this when you read the following.
What is an Open Rehearsal?
We frequently will hold an Open Rehearsal prior to a formal audition. We started doing this a few years ago to help give people a chance to get to know us a little before the audition. It is really low-key. We will chat for a little bit to let you know more about our group and what we are looking for and we will sing a few songs. You don’t need to prepare anything for the open rehearsal, just be yourself. Send us an email if you are interested and we can let you know about any upcoming open rehearsals.
A little about our audition process:
After we recieve your email and determine your range is what we are looking for, we ask that you submit a audio or video recording of you singing (a cappella, of course). Your song choice should reflect the range you are auditioning for. If we want to move forward with an audition, we will make arrangements to have your audition in person. At the audition, we ask you to sing a short piece to us which you feel showcases your voice. This does not have to be complicated or “fussy” (one member got into the group after singing a lullaby) just something you feel comfortable with. We will do some exercises to check your range and musicality and we may ask you to sing with us, on a familar song, so we can hear your blend. Please note that reading music is not a requirement! We are just as interested in people who can learn things by ear.
Some helpful information about the Cats:
We sing because we love it and we enjoy each other’s company. This is not a business venture, and any money we make goes into a kitty (pun intended) for general use by the group for expenses. However, we are serious about the music we make and are committed to the group and each other.
What about rehearsals?
Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 pm at a Cat’s home. We try to keep the rehearsals in a central location, such as Brookline, Watertown, or Wellesley, but ocassionally we meet in other far flung places (where other Cats live). You should note that these places are not necessarily T accessible, so if you don’t have a car, you’ll need to carpool with another Cat or make other arrangements. Rehearsals are important, so if you currently have a Monday night engagement or will have a regular conflict, then this might not be the best time for you to audition. We do understand that we all have real lives, though, and we try to work things out when we can.
