Hiring Actors of All Races to Work as Civil Rights Testers
Location: Houston, TX
Type: Other Projects
The Center for Civil Rights is hiring actors to “go undercover” to determine if businesses in the Houston area are violating civil rights laws. We are seeking both white actors and actors of color.
We are a leading civil rights organization that advances fair lending and fair housing practices through multifaceted programs, including systemic “testing” of real estate providers and financial institutions. (For example, we might send a male actor into a bank to apply for a loan, then send a female actor into the same bank to see if they are offered the same treatment.)
“Testers” participate in a flexible, assignment-based volunteer program. Assignments generally only last a few hours, and participants are paid a $150 stipend for each completed assignment. This is a great opportunity for actors looking for some extra income, and participants will have a direct impact on increasing fair and equal access to housing throughout the nation.
There will be a mandatory training session taking place in Houston on Tuesday, December 5th, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Participants will be paid $75 for completing the session.
Please be aware that, because of grant restrictions, we are unable to hire anyone who has worked for a bank or a real estate agency within the past 12 months. We are also unable to hire anyone who has ever been convicted of a crime of dishonesty (such as perjury, or writing bad checks.)
If you are interested in participating, please email your work resume to civilrightsvolunteers@ncrc.org.
