Something Better

Type: Student Films
“With only one night to record a score for his film, Alex watches as his vision is compromised and must trust the improvised expression of others to complete his work.”
Alex is a talented and passionate filmmaker who’s missing a key quality in a successful artist. He is unwilling to compromise his vision and unwilling to develop it. On the only day that Alex can record his score, everything goes wrong. Starting with his audio engineer dropping out, Alex’s struggles continue with his notes, including the sheet music and notes for the musicians, being blown out of his car and ending with his 2 of the three musicians quitting after receiving incomplete sheet music from Alex who is committed to recording what he had prepared with his audio engineer.
With the resignation of both musicians, Alex is broken. With only one night to record, Alex’s vision seems impossible. In a moment of absolute internal conflict, Alex slows himself and breathes. In this moment of silence, Alex overhears a street performer improvising wildly down the street as the trumpeter, the only musician to stay, plays passionately in the recording station.
Alex learns that he must sacrifice his desired vision and allow it to evolve and to develop through the perspective of other artists. He convinces the street performer to record an improvised score with the remaining trumpeter.
