Online Video Auditions for The Lead Roles in “Step Up” TV Show

Casting call for speaking roles / major roles in new “Step Up” TV series.

Channing Tatum’s hit movie “Step Up” is coming to the small screen in the form of a television series. Lionsgate Television and YouTube Red are working on a series version of the popular dance flick and there is a nationwide casting call out for talent to fill 2 major roles.  Online and video auditions are now open giving talent that matches the descriptions and age requirements a chance to land a major role in a TV series.  Talent interested in auditioning for the lead, speaking roles, may submit their online audition / video auditions through the 24th of this month in order to be considered for the roles.

YouTube is joining other streaming networks that have recently made the jump into the original scripted series space. The streaming video provider gave a straight-to-series order to “Step Up,” a new dance oriented TV drama that is based on the movie franchise which starred Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum.  The movie franchise grossed $650 million worldwide at the box office.

Lionsgate has teamed up with YouTube on the project and original cast members, Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum are on board to produce.  This will be YouTube’s first big budget, original scripted series and it will premiere on YouTube’s Red subscription service later this year or next year.  This is one of YouTube’s new shows that will headline their, original content arm.  The new show was announced at Vidcon by YouTube’s global head of original programming Susanne Daniels.  She announced that other shows include Rhett & Link’s Buddy System, Dan & Phil’s Tour Documentary, Vlogumentary and a Michael Stevens project. According to Deadline, Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum will executive produce the series adaptation and the “Step Up” movie’s original producers Adam Shankman, Jennifer Gibgot and Meredith Milton are also on board for the television remake.  YouTube’s Susan Daniels also added, “We know dance is a hugely successfully global audience on YouTube” and Lionsgate Television Group’s Chairman Kevin Beggs stated “After five exciting and successful movies, we’re proud to partner with YouTube Red, a major new force on the programming landscape.”

Step Up TV show casting lead roles

The upcoming Step Up YouTube series will be a “heart-pounding, sexy, music-filled drama about dancers in a contemporary performing arts school.”  Lionsgate Television Group’s Chairman Kevin Beggs described the upcoming “Step Up” series as an adrenaline-filled drama with non-stop energy and spectacular dancing from A-list creative talent.  The show begins production later this year.

According to IMDB, the original film focused on dancers Tyler and Nora.  Tyler Gage receives the opportunity of a lifetime after vandalizing a performing arts school, gaining him the chance to earn a scholarship and dance with an up and coming dancer, Nora.  The franchise went on to include 5 other “Step Up” movies.

Step Up 2017 & 2018

Casting directors for the new show are seeking to fill the roles of Tal and Janelle.  Tal is described as a bi-racial young adult between the ages of 18 and 21. Janelle is described as a beautiful young dancer who is determined to make it big. Janelle is also bi-racial and between the ages of 18 and 21. Janelle is a self centered young lady who moves to Atlanta after reaching star status in her home town where she was the head cheerleader of her home states top hip hop dance squad. Tal is quick witted and sharp as a whip, a talented ballet dancer with reservations about performing publicly. He is a gay man who neither flaunts his sexual preference nor hides it. Tal and Janelle are twins.

Tal – Open Call
18-21 years. BI-RACIAL. Skinny, smart, with a quick witted sense of humor. He is gay, but doesn’t advertise that fact nor does he hide it. Has a higher IQ and EQ than his ambitious, powerhouse twin sister Janelle. A talented ballet/contemporary dancer, Tal initially loves dance just to make sense of the world and ground himself – though he is terrified at performing publicly and therefore can’t really see it as a career. Janelle – Open Call
18-21 years. BI-RACIAL. Beautiful, determined and insanely motivated dancer who was a rock star in her small town as the head cheerleader of the states biggest hip hop cheer squad. A self-centered young woman who doesn’t waste much sympathy on people. Initially feels like a fish out of water when she arrives in her new home in Atlanta. PLEASE ONLY SUBMIT IF YOU FIT THE AGE AND DESCRIPTION OF THIS ROLE.

Auditions are being handled by the cast it talent system which has created a website to accept auditions on this page.
