“Welcome to America: a Caribbean Musical” explores the complexities of a newly arrived undocumented Caribbean immigrant and the pursuit of life goals in the United States. The story is a universal one of hopes & dreams. The musical employs both original and well known songs ranging from Reggae, Dancehall, Ska & Jamaican Folk enhanced with contemporary Broadway musical styling.

Please prepare the following:
Singing – 16 bars of a contemporary song
Dancing – come prepared to learn a short sequence
Acting – Sides will be provided

What to Prepare
Prepare 16 bars of an up-tempo song & a ballad
– Have sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided. No tracks! Seeking strong versatile voices; song selection should reflect range of contemporary Broadway musical proficiency (in the style of Aida, Once On This Island etc.). Experience speaking/singing in Jamaican patois is a plus.

– Please bring a headshot and resume.
– Bring a calendar/list of any conflicts, to report upon arrival.

PERFORMANCE DATES
Seeking some roles for the Non Union DC/Baltimore tour. The weekend of October 28 & 29th 2017 (2 performances)

REHEARSALS
September 23 – October 26, 2017. Rehearsals held weeknights and weekend days.

*There is pay for this production. Stipend amount varies dependent upon the role.

All roles are ensemble with featured characters:

Barry Bevins (M)
Vocal Range – Tenor
Age Range late 30s
Handsome, smooth-talking man of color who is a strong singer and dancer

Teddy (M)
Vocal Range – Bass/Baritone
Age range – 30s
Strong African-American or Afro-Latino character actor who is able to sing and dance well

Nikki (F)
Vocal Range – Soprano
Age Range- 20s/30s
Strong singer, dancer and character actress of color

Joy (F)
Vocal Range – Alto
Age Range -20s/30s
Afro-Caribbean, strong singer, dancer and character actress

Production covers: Accommodation, Travel, Per Diem & Stipend
