International Music Festival in Assisi, Italy
Location: Washington, D.C.; New York City, Boston
Type: Singers
Please note that travel expenses are not being paid covered and there are other fees involved.
Assisi Performing Arts (APA) will launch its 17th season with over 2 weeks of vocal and instrumental music in the medieval city of Assisi. The travel date to Italy is July 2, 2017. Following the festival there are two nights in Rome before returning to the U.S. on July 21st. Opportunities for vocalists include performances in opera (arias, ensembles, and extended scenes), musical theatre, and sacred choral works. The full vocal ensemble will sing at Sunday Mass at the Basilica of St. Francis (which is streamed live on Facebook) and the Cathedral Church of San Rufino.
We accept applications from singers as young as those are entering their senior year of high school. Many of our singers come from college or graduate schools but also from university faculty and strong performance careers. Several singers return year after year. The time in Assisi is filled with rehearsals and workshops preparing some 21 vocal chamber music concerts. Coaching by university and professional artists is available upon request. Workshops will be as diverse as medical concerns for the performer, stage make-up, career opportunities in Church music, and the spirituality of the musician.
APA offers a religious retreat as a parallel program that is very popular with both musicians and non-musicians. Everyone is welcome to attend the liturgies and conferences if they wish. On your days off we offer excursions to such places as Orvieto, Lake Trasimeno, Perugia, as well as a tour of the Assisi area that includes major sites connected with St. Francis. Our hotel goes out of its way to make us comfortable and well fed!
Solo opportunities are guaranteed with your choice of repertory. Opera scenes are scheduled and cast according to interest and the availability of voices. Assisi Performing Arts offers an experience into the life of the professional singer where friendships are made and nurtured, support and encouragement come naturally, and everyone succeeds and grows. We strive to create an atmosphere that reflects St. Francis’ motto: pax et bonum (peace and all good things).
An accompanist will be provided or you may bring your own. There is no fee to audition but reservations are required. For more information or to schedule an audition in one of the audition locations, please send an email to: Robert@robertviolette.com. Online submission of materials is also accepted.
The cost of tuition, room and meals is $2450.00. Scholarship assistance up to $1000, based on audition, is available. That comes to $80.50 per day!
