Dennis Williams’ I’ve Cried the Blues is a 1940’s urban musical of a family whose roots are nearly ripped from the soil when racism surfaces in their home state of Arkansas.
I’ve Cried the Blue’s follows the life of a family in the 1940’s; the thick of the Blue’s Era and the core of segregation. Mattie, a mother of three raise her children in her childhood home in Little Rock, Arkansas alongside her mother, Esther, a maid that has cleaned homes for over 50 years earning little pay.
