Neil Simon’s LOST IN YONKERS, directed by David Dieudonne. Opens October 26th and runs for 2 consecutive weekends.
Actors should prepare for cold readings, bring photo and resume. Actors will be paid.
CHARACTERS:
Grandma Kurnitz aged 70. Blunt,, stern immigrant from Germany; boundless capacity to love, but suppressed as a result of early tragedy. (Must speak with accent.)
Bella, a daughter of Grandma Kurnitz, aged 35; a bit off-center & mentally challenged; loving & protective of nephews & longing for independence from Grandma.
Gert, another daughter, aged 40; noticeable breathing issue – tendency to suck in air while still speaking; resulted from trauma inflicted while young.
Louie, a son of Grandma Kurnitz, aged 38; flamboyant bag-man for the mob; role needs quiet but crucial note of malice.
Eddie, another son, aged 42; recent widower & father to Jay & Arty. Forced to find work out of town & must leave boys with Grandma; meek & compliant around Grandma; carries an air of defeatism, but loves his sons fiercely & will do anything to protect them.
Jay, a son of Eddie, aged 15; his mother’s death & his father’s departure forces him to be more mature than he is perhaps quite ready to be
Arty, younger son of Eddie, aged 13; more of an observer than the rest of the family; goes with the flow but sometimes seems childish.
