LOGLINE
A former white nationalist returns to his small hometown to visits his dying father after years of abandoning his family’s beliefs and being branded as a traitor. We go back and forth between present and past– recalling the day it all went wrong.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
STEVE BENNETT (MALE, 20, CAUCASIAN) The black sheep of his family. Hesitant and quiet, Steve has always had a go-with-the-flow attitude, but when he meets Abril, he finally has the courage to admit what’s he’s always known deep inside–he’s never really been interested in race… unlike his family.
JAMES BENNETT (MALE, 22, CAUCASIAN) Steve’s older brother, wants to make his dad proud. He’s tall, handsome, and leader of a hate group disguised as a fraternity.
RON BENNETT (MALE, 40s, CAUCASIAN) The type of person that believes that it’s time to relive the Roman empire. He’s disappointed in his son and doesn’t think he can ever forgive him for betraying their legacy. Has an extensive history of alcoholism.
ABRIL VELASQUEZ (FEMALE, 21, HISPANIC) Mexican-American. Feels like she has to justify her decision be with Steve, considering his family’s legacy is rooted in hate. She’s intelligent, fierce and the instigator of the small town. Her mom is out of town and she must take care of Nacho’s birthday party on her own.
NACHO (MALE, 8-10, HISPANIC) Abril’s bubbly little brother and birthday boy.
ALI MALIK (MALE, 21, SOUTH ASIAN) The victim of a hate crime. He’s also in love with his best friend, Abril, and doesn’t know how to tell her that her boyfriend beat him up.
COMPENSATION: Film credit, food and a digital copy for reels/portfolios will be provided.
