SYNOPSIS:
A short silent psychological drama exploring a mother-daughter relationship, as well as living/understanding a parent who lives in an entirely different reality. Freya is a lonely nine-year-old Asian/mix-Asian girl who spends most of her time playing with her, white imaginary sister, but. Her fantasy is constantly reinforced by her mother’s erratic, and sometimes violent reactions/behaviors. One day, the magic of fantasy doesn’t work anymore, and Freya has to face the monster in reality alone…to understand her mother, who suffers from chronic schizophrenia.
CHARACTERS:
AGNES (late 30s-40s, female, Asian): Freya’s mother. Agnes is a loving, single mother who feels bad for “scaring” the child sometimes. Once a proud, celebrated scholar, the golden girl from a nice family, but has been the “pity” for the public and family since her last acute episode. Constantly living in fear—believing that bad people/spies are there to get her family killed, having suicidal thoughts. Doesn’t think pills help her sanity.
FREYA (9, female, Asian or partially Asian): fresh face. Innocent but tougher than you think. A lonely child with wild imagination, trying to make sense of her mother’s “unusual” behaviors and temper-change in her own way. Desperately wants an elder sister/maternal figure/role model but is forced to make up one, make up one and grow up under harder terms. (Am also looking for FREYA; however, please note that she will be unpaid due to conflicts with child-labour laws)

Chinese-American cook Amy Chang wants to move to L.A. with her girlfriend Megan, yet is held back by unfinished business with her late grandma.
CHARACTERS:
GRANDMA (60-75, Female, East-Asian Descent. Preferably Chinese/ Chinese-American): Petite, self-assured woman. Traditional Chinese grandma who raised Amy when her Mom left to run the family restaurant. Remains a constant spiritual presence in Amy’s life, even after her death. **Noodle-making experience not required but definitely a plus!**
MOM (35-55, Female, East-Asian Descent. Preferably Chinese / Chinese-American): Caring. Worried. A single parent trying to financially care for her daughter, yet in doing so, missed out on much of her childhood. Amy’s mom wants her daughter to stay in Chicago with her and run the family restaurant. **Noodle-making experience not required but definitely a plus!**
