Get cast in a speaking movie role.
Lin-Manuel Miranda has announced an online casting call and video auditions for speaking roles in his new movie project.
Seems that Jon M. Chu is set to direct the Warner Bros. movie which will be a film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony-winning musical. The movie is now taking online auditions for various roles and actors interested in the parts have until the 7th of November to get their video auditions in.
Lin-Manuel Miranda is the man behind the hit Broadway musical “Hamilton.” Now his Tony Award musical “In The Heights” is being made into a movie and there are 4 roles open and available for anyone in the general public to tryout for. Miranda did make a video announcing the casting call in which he stated “I’ve got all these roles someone was made to play.”
This movie is in the pre-production process and is reported to be looking for a theatrical release sometime in 2020.
The Tony Award-winning hit musical IN THE HEIGHTS is coming to the big screen! With music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and book by Quiara Alegría Hudes and directed by Jon M. Chu, this lively musical centers around characters in the Latino-American community of bustling Washington Heights in New York City. When the neighborhood’s charismatic local bodega owner, and our story’s humble narrator, finally decides to fulfill his dream of going to the island his parents called home, his departure will change his beloved block forever. Piraguas and blackouts, coming home and moving out, IN THE HEIGHTS is a beloved musical that submerges us into the vibrant rhythm of the city and uplifts us into the heart of a rich community.
There are 4 roles up for grabs:
- FEMALE ROLE #1 – Young, starry-eyed and intelligent (book-smart and street-smart). Must sing and dance well. Familiarity with speaking Spanish is ideal.
- FEMALE ROLE #2 – A strong woman who is stylish, sassy and loves to gossip. Must sing and dance well. Familiarity with speaking Spanish is ideal.
- MALE ROLE #1 – Completely streetwise, this teen is brilliant but also a total goofball. Must sing and dance well. Familiarity with speaking Spanish is ideal.
- MALE ROLE #2 – Driven, charismatic, and full of energy. Puts on a brave face when times get tough. Must rap, sing and dance well. Familiarity with speaking Spanish is ideal.
The deadline to submit an audition is Nov. 7.
The movie will be filming in the New York City area next year.

In The Heights – Set in the predominantly Latino Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan, where Miranda grew up, “In the Heights” follows the lives of several characters all dealing with issues of family, love, and community as gentrification begins to take hold.
Again, the deadline to get your audition videos in is the 7th of November and the movie is set to film in 2019.
