The Sister Moses Project is seeking dancers and actors for the 2019 performance. We are looking for both professionals and students/community performers who want to appear alongside the Desert Dance Theatre. Thank you for your interest in helping us tell the incredible story of Harriet Tubman as we bring history to life on stage for our audiences! Our production was designed with a limited number of roles in specific sections that allow local performers of all ages and technical training to perform alongside Desert Dance Theatre. Dance roles will require a longer commitment of rehearsal time and will include a minimal stipend. The volunteer student and adult walk on roles require acting ability and as few as 3 hours of rehearsal in addition to the mandatory production week schedule of rehearsals and performances. We operate with the philosophy that there are no “stars” in this show because each and every role, whether small or large, is invaluable in portraying the history in an accurate way. As mentioned above, we are only able to work with a limited number of performers due to costume availability so we appreciate the time you take to 1) fill out this application and 2) attach a headshot and 3) a video link if you are a dancer.
Our process is to first review your applications before we meet you at the formal audition. Please note that if you are invited to the dance audition you must also be available for the rehearsals scheduled the day after from Wed-Sat 12/19-22/2018. Desert Dance Theatre’s Artistic Director, Lisa Chow, will fly in from Phoenix to conduct auditions and teach most of the choreography during this time. After this week-long intensive, rehearsals will continue weekly in January for reviews with Renee Davis, Associate Artistic Director. Volunteer roles will only need rehearsals during show week or possibly no more than the week before.
