Auditions for Scenes from Shakespeare

KIXE Channel 9 and Spiritus Productions are pleased to announce auditions for our Scenes from Shakespeare live performance and behind-the-scenes documentary. We will be casting six scenes from selected plays featured in the Shakespeare Uncovered television series [WNET New York PBS affiliate]. As we audition and rehearse to perform these scenes, our local PBS affiliate KIXE Channel 9 will be filming a behind-the-scenes documentary of our process. We will be joined for the last week of rehearsal and the performance by a professional Equity actor.

Required Dates:
Performance Sept. 15, 2018 Call time 5 pm 7-9 pm
Tech Rehearsals Sept. 11, 12, 13, 14 Call time 5 pm to Late evening
Rehearsals July 31 to Sept. 7 [Tue-Fri] 6-9:30 pm
Some Saturdays TBA

We are looking to cast actors to play the following characters in the documentary:
Richard III from Richard III
Shylock from The Merchant of Venice
Benedick from Much Ado About Nothing
Antony from Julius Caesar
*Brutus from Julius Caesar
Angelo from Measure for Measure
Leontes from The Winter’s Tale

*Brutus will be performed by a local actor in the documentary and the live performance. All other characters are stand-ins for the Equity Actor. They will learn the roles essentially as understudies and substitute scene partners.

We are looking to cast actors to play the following characters in the documentary and the live performance:
Lady Anne from Richard III
Portia from The Merchant of Venice
Beatrice from Much Ado About Nothing
Isabella from Measure for Measure
Paulina from The Winter’s Tale
Hermione from The Winter’s Tale

Note: We will be looking to double cast. Make a point to show your range.

To Do List for auditioning:
-Email spiritus2018@gmail.com to reserve an audition time on either July 25 or 26.
-Prepare two contrasting monologues from Shakespeare [10+ lines]. Choose carefully to reflect your ability to portray the characters we are casting but do not choose a speech from the selected plays for performance. Go to www.bardinthepark.org for suggested speeches.
-Come to your appointment with a headshot and resume and camera-ready.
-Arrive 10-15 minutes early to fill out an application or download the application off the website www.bardinthepark.org and bring it with you.

-If you are asked back for callbacks, you will receive an email late Thursday or early Friday and you will be given a specific scene to read. You will be expected to arrive at 6 pm on Friday and stay for the entire time.
