AFTER MIDNIGHT is a celebration of Harlem’s Cotton Club where legendary performers including Bessie Smith, Lena Horne, Cab Calloway, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Fletcher Henderson, Billie Holliday and Ethel Waters performed during the venue’s 1930s and 1940s heydays. A 2014 Tony nominee for Best Musical, After Midnight comes to the beautiful Norwegian Escape directly from Broadway including the spectacular Tony nominated costumes, designed by famed Cuban-American duo Ruben and Isabel Toledo, as well as the original Tony nominated sound and lighting designs. Warren Carlyle’s Tony award winning choreography includes references to famous African American performers such as the Nicholas Brothers as well as contemporary hip hop moves – all underscored by a live 8 piece band. Originally conceived by Jack Viertel and Wynton Marsalis’ Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, After Midnight is a ravishing tribute to African American art and the performance culture of the Harlem Renaissance. Cast members in After Midnight may also have roles in Soulful Hit Parade.
