We’re hiring all kinds of people for Terror Behind the Walls!
Terror Behind the Walls (TBTW), consistently ranked among the top haunted houses in the nation, runs select nights from September through November and employs a variety of people to fill more than 300 seasonal positions each year. Currently available positions include actors, dancers, makeup artists, box office and retail staff, event staff, and more. These jobs are demanding but FUN. Many employees return year after year to join our Scream Team!
Pay starts at $12.20 per hour, and more for management positions.
All staff must be 18 years old or older and must successfully complete a background check. Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
Positions will be filled on a first-come, first-considered basis – meaning that you have a better chance getting a role by attending an earlier audition/interview. Auditions and interviews run RAIN OR SHINE and are now taking place.
These are the categories of currently available positions at Terror Behind the Walls:
Acting, Dancing, and Singing Roles
Applicants must audition for acting, dancing, and singing roles. These jobs require wearing costumes and special FX makeup provided by TBTW. An actor’s main responsibility is to scare and entertain visitors in the haunted house. You do not need to prepare a monologue; just come, have fun, and give us your best scream! No experience necessary.
Customer Service, Retail, and Box Office Roles
Applicants must interview for these roles. Positions include Line Staff, Guest Services, Retail Staff, Box Office and Ghost Bus Parking Lot Attendants. These positions require a lot of customer interaction. A positive attitude and a commitment to exceptional customer service are required. Most of these jobs do not require wearing a costume or makeup, just a uniform.
Special FX Makeup Team
Applicants must interview for these positions. This elite team prepares the cast of more than 200 performers each show night. Lots of energy and special effects makeup experience are required.

2019 Singing Role Auditions
TBTW is seeking an additional singer for The Speakeasy at Al Capone’s Cell.
Singers must have professional experience and be comfortable singing to tracks. Singers must also be comfortable creating a character, improvising within that character, and mingling with patrons to create a creepy, elegant, and fun atmosphere for our visitors. Singers must prepare a track and come prepared to perform. Styles include jazz, big band, lounge, and soul.
All auditions are held from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at Eastern State Penitentiary, unless otherwise noted below. You do not need to make an appointment.

2019 Dancing Role Auditions
TBTW is seeking dancers for our Zombie SWAT Dance Team.
Dancers must have experience and be comfortable dancing on pavement. Dancers must also be comfortable creating a character, improvising within that character, and mingling with patrons. Dancers must be able to follow and learn choreography. Dance audition will last for one hour. Please bring a water bottle. All dance styles welcome but we would like a concentration in hip-hop and breakdancing.
All auditions are held from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at Eastern State Penitentiary, unless otherwise noted below. You do not need to make an appointment. All dancers MUST be on site by 6:00 pm.
