Black Gold is the story of Jamaica, a budding attorney who straddles the fence between uptown dreams and downtown roots. She graduates with her law degree from Howard, passes the bar on her first try, and meets and falls in love with a man that exemplifies ‘black excellence.’ But her dreams may be deferred when her mother dies, leaving her in control of the family business, a pawn shop called ‘Black Gold’. Black Gold is a relatable show set in a present-day, urban city. It tackles things like love, family, duty, and aspiration, all while employing a fun 70’s aesthetic.
