Immersive Science Theater – Flu vs You
Location: San Francisco/Bay Area
Type: Theater
The National Center for Science Education is an Oakland-based non-profit that defends and
promotes the teaching of science in public schools. We provide information, resources, and support on areas of science that are often attacked on social or political grounds—such as climate change and evolution.
During the Fall of 2019 we are putting on an immersive theater experience where participants solve an epidemiological mystery about the flu. The audience will explore five different countries, speaking to actors at each location in an attempt to gather data. They will then head to the lab and perform analyses to build a flu vaccine that prevents a global epidemic. We are seeking experienced actors to help engage people of all ages and backgrounds. We will provide training in the science content, so no previous experience with epidemiology is required. If you are passionate about both accurate science education and theater, this is a great volunteer opportunity for you.
First meeting will be held Saturday, September 5th at 1PM. Performances start October 3rd and run through November 10th. Attendance at all performances is not mandatory.
