There’s always time to remember this romantic fable about a boy, a girl, their two fathers and a love that grows with each season.
The Fantasticks is a 1960 musical with music by Harvey Schmidt and lyrics by Tom Jones. It tells an allegorical story, loosely based on the play The Romancers by Edmond Rostand, concerning two neighboring fathers who trick their children, Luisa and Matt, into falling in love by pretending to feud.

Audition Dates: Sunday, May 19, 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Monday, May 20, 6:00 to 8:00 pm

To audition, please prepare to sing an up-tempo musical number. Bring a CD or other music accompaniment, such as using an ipod or tablet, with no voice track. CD player will be available. Acapella auditions are acceptable. Rehearsals will be at the Anchorage school, generally on Sundays 2:30p-5:00p, Tuesdays & Thursdays 7:00p-9:30p, with Saturdays for set design & construction, as neelouisded. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled as needed. Tech week will start on Sunday, July 21nd.
Performances of the show will be at the Anchorage Auditorium on Thursday, July 25, Friday, July 26, and Saturday, July 27 at 8:00 pm, and Sunday, July 28, at 2:30 pm.
Background: Mummers & Minstrels began showcasing Anchorage residents on the verandah of Mavis McGhee, a playwright & director, prior to 1954 and incorporated first as The Verandah Theatre, then was renamed Mummers & Minstrels four years later. The first play produced in the Anchorage School was Up in Mother’s Suite in 1967. Mummers & Minstrels is incorporated in Kentucky as a non-profit organization, and IRS qualified as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
