Synopsis:
We are filming a seven episode mini series based off of Percy Jackson and the Olmpians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. The episodes will follow the general plot of the book, focusing on specific chapters and scenes. The goals are to accurately portray the characters, to create a beautiful piece of film art, and to capture the essence of this series that has impacted so many lives.
Volunteer-based position, this is a non-paid gig.
Looking for Actors, Crew Hands, anyone with Camera or Editing experience.
Roles:
LUKE CASTELLAN – (MALE) (CAUCASIAN) (LATE TEENS)
Head Counselor of the Hermes Cabin. Befriends Percy and then later stabs him in the back. Had a rough upbringing and has shared past trauma with Annabeth and Grover. Overall, super confident in himself and his abilities. Suave, cool, popular. Great with a sword.
MR. D – (MALE) (CAUCASIAN) (COLLEGE AGED/MIDDLE AGED)
Dionysius or Mr. D was cursed by his father Zeus, King of the Gods, to essentially be the eternal camp director at Camp Half-Blood. As the god of wine and partying he is eccentric but also quite miserable–he is also cursed to drink only non-alcoholic beverages. Loves hanging out on the Big House porch and yelling at campers while wearing horribly clashing Hawaiin shirts. Loud, annoyed, sarcastic, great at pinochle.
PERCY JACKSON – (MALE) (CAUCASIAN – DARK HAIR) (TEEN)
Son of Poseidon. Struggles with dyslexia and ADHD. Super loyal and caring, if not prone to follow his impulses. Has a good heart and likes to stick up for the little guy. Called “Seaweed Brain” because he doesn’t always think things through. Feels like an outcast and loser–has moved/been kicked out of school after school. A great leader and even better friend. Loves the color blue.
SALLY JACKSON – (FEMALE) (CAUCASIAN) (COLLEGE AGED/MIDDLE AGED)
Percy’s caring and selfless mother. Marries her abusive husband (Gabe Ugliano) in order to help protect Percy from monsters. Works in the city at a candy shop. The sweetest lady ever. Mom of the Year.
GABE UGLIANO – (MALE) (CAUCASIAN – ITALIAN) (COLLEGE AGED/MIDDLE AGED)
Only really cares about his chip dip, beer, and poker games. Abusive and nasty towards both Percy and Sally. Overall stereotypical New York Italian man.
SILENA BEAUREGARD – (FEMALE) (OPEN ETHNICITY – DARK HAIR – BEAUTIFUL) (TEEN)
Head of the Aphrodite cabin. Has a crush on Luke. Super kind and fashionable. Popular amongst all the campers at Camp Half Blood.
THALIA GRACE – (FEMALE) (CAUCASIAN – DARK HAIR) (8-13)
Daughter of Zeus. Brave and strong-willed. Sacrifices herself to save her adopted family, Luke and Annabeth. Turned into a pine tree to serve as a protective barrier for all of Camp Half Blood.
YOUNG ANNABETH – (FEMALE) (CAUCASIAN – BLONDE) (8-13)
YOUNG LUKE CASTELLAN – (MALE) (CAUCASIAN – BLOND) (8-13)
HADES – (MALE) (CAUCASIAN – DARK HAIR) (COLLEGE AGED/MIDDLE AGED)
Exhausted Lord of the Underworld who doesn’t want to be bothered.
MRS. DODDS – (FEMALE) (OPEN ETHNICITY) (COLLEGE AGED/MIDDLE AGED)
Eerie; something is off about her. Secretly one of the three furies of the Underworld. Do Hades’ bidding. Masks as a substitute.
CHIRON- (MALE) (OPEN ETHNICITY) (COLLEGE AGED/MIDDLE AGED)
Mentor to Percy and Activity Director of Camp Half-Blood. Disguises as a history teacher in a wheelchair when in the human world. Good man.
NANCY BOBOFIT- (FEMALE) (CAUCASIAN) (TEEN)
A bully who delights in annoying Percy and Grover at school. A stuck up.
MEDUSA- (FEMALE) (OPEN ETHNICITY) (COLLEGE AGED/MIDDLE AGED)
Runs Aunty Em’s Garden Emporium where she lures people into her shop and then turns them to stone to add to her collection.
CHARON – (MALE) (OPEN ETHNICITY) (COLLEGE AGED/MIDDLE AGED)
Ferryman to the Underworld. Wishes his wages were higher and wants to be in Hades’ good graces. A little cranky.
EXTRAS/DEMIGOD CAMPERS – (ANY GENDER) (OPEN ETHNICITY) (ANY AGE)
Will be acting in the background, and may have a few lines. Participate in capture the flag, and other scenes! Will get to work with cool SFX makeup and costumes.
MONOLOGUES
Male Monologue #1
PERCY: Look, I didn’t want to be a half-blood.
Long pause followed by a sigh as if he knows what he’s getting into and doesn’t like it.
PERCY: If you’re watching this because you think you might be one, my advice is: pause this video right now. Believe whatever lie your mom or dad told you about your birth, and try to lead a normal life. Beat. Being a half-blood is dangerous. It’s scary. Most of the time, it gets you killed in painful, nasty ways. Long beat. If you’re a normal kid, watching this because you think it’s fiction, great. Watch on. I envy you for being able to believe that none of this ever happened. Beat. But if you recognize yourself in this story-if you feel something stirring inside-stop watching immediately. You might be one of us. And once you know that, it’s only a matter of time before they sense it too, and they’ll come for you.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Male Monologue #2
Luke’s smile wavered.
LUKE: I … got overconfident. Zeus sent out his sons and daughters to find the stolen botl – Artemis, Apollo, my father, Hermes. But it was Ares who caught me. I could have beaten him, but I wasn’t careful enough. He disarmed me, took the items of power, threatened to return them to Olympus and burn me alive. Then Kronos’ voice came to me and told me what to say. I put the idea in Ares’s head about a great war between the gods. I said all he had to do was hide the items away for a while and watch the others fight. Ares got a wicked gleam in his eyes. I knew he was hooked. He let me go, and I returned to Olympus before anyone noticed my absence.
Female Monologue #1
Annabeth: It depends, some campers only stay the summer. If you’re a child of Aphrodite or Demeter, you’re probably not a real powerful force. The monsters might ignore you, so you can get by with a few months of summer training and live in the mortal world the rest of the year. But for some of us, it’s too dangerous to leave. We’re year rounders. In the mortal world, we attract monsters. They sense us. They come to challenge us. Most of the time, they’ll ignore us until we’re old enough to cause trouble – about ten or eleven years old, but after that, most demigods either make their way here, or they get killed off. A few manage to survive in the outside world and become famous. Believe me, if I told you the names, you’d know them. Some don’t even realize they’re demigods. But very, very few are like that.
Female Monologue #2
Annabeth: Right after we visited, the weather got weird, as if the gods had started fighting. A couple of times since, I’ve overheard satyrs talking. The best I can figure out is that something important was stolen. And if it isn’t returned by summer solstice, there’s going to be trouble. When you came, I was hoping … I mean – Athena can get along with just about anybody, except for Ares. And of course she’s got the rivalry with Poseidon. But, I mean, aside from that, I thought we could work together. I thought you might know something.
