PlayZoomers is a new way to enjoy play reading among friends.
In this pandemic time, when theater of all kinds is temporarily suspended, we’ve found a way to scratch the itch and keep the flame burning (while also murdering too many clichés). We’ve gathered an ever-growing band of enthusiastic and talented playwrights, directors, and actors, both professionals and experienced amateurs. Audience members listen, watch, and discuss the plays with the players.
We started in April 2020 with bi-weekly readings, usually on Fridays at 7:30 PM, Eastern Time. We rehearse and perform on Zoom (thus the name!), with all of its advantages and pitfalls. We perform a variety of genres, often by our own member playwrights, some short (10 minutes or so) and some longer (30 minutes or more). The producers select the plays and directors, and directors make casting choices. There are usually one or two rehearsals before each performance. We have members around the US, including the Boston area, Western Massachusetts, Iowa, North Carolina, Florida, Michigan, California, and elsewhere.
We seek and welcome more participants of all ages and backgrounds: playwrights, directors, actors, and audience.
