Open Auditions for IN THE HEIGHTS
Location: Chicago, IL
Type: Theater
Up and Coming Theatre Co. and Elgin Summer Theatre are excited to announce that they will continue their partnership to present the 2020 summer production of IN THE HEIGHTS.
In The Heights tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood – a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. In The Heights is the winner of the 2008 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations.
Auditions are open to the public and will be held on May 12 & 13 at The Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way in Elgin. Callbacks will be by invitation only on May 14. Those 14 years of age and older are encouraged to audition. All those auditioning should wear comfortable clothing and shoes for the dance portion and prepare to sing 16 to 32 bars of a song that best highlights their vocal ability. An accompanist will be provided, so auditionees must bring sheet music in the key they will be singing. Singing acapella is not encouraged.
