Synopsis:
Is it fact or is it fiction? In a story that could be straight out of today’s headlines, a determined fact-checker goes head-to-head with a famous author in this thought-provoking but comedic battle royale. Their fast-paced war of words starts over a deeply moving essay about the suicide of a teenage boy and examines what is fact, what is fiction, and does it matter if the future of the magazine is on the line. Daniel Radcliffe, Cherry Jones, and Bobby Cannavale starred in the Broadway production.

Characters:
2 men,1 woman – the actors can be any race, ethnicity, or gender identification

John D’Agata (40’s – 60’s) – the writer. A highly regarded contemporary essayist. Very passionate and protective of his work. A strong personality, does not suffer fools gladly, can be arrogant, but never a bully.

Emily Penrose (40’s-60’s) – the Editor-in-Chief of a high-end, glossy magazine. Intelligent, very stressed but keeps her cool very well, perceptive, able to multi-task without dropping a thing.

Jim Fingal (20’s-30’s) – the fact-checker. A fresh-out-of-Harvard intern at Emily’s magazine. Nervous about this assignment, eager-to-please, but not afraid to stand up to John.

Note: John and Jim are based on real people, and Emily is an amalgam of editors created for the play. Ages are flexible and intentionally a little vague. However, Jim must come across as younger than John.
