Auditions for the Broadway and Touring production of “Wicked” are coming to the Los Angeles area.
The casting directors for the production will be in Los Angeles this week. They will be holding an open call this month for dancers. They are seeking performers to join either the touring production of the show or the Broadway production.
Auditions are for what they describe as unique and fit dancers who have strong ballet and jazz technique. The show is a retelling of the classic “Wizard of Oz” which id edgy and contemporary. The casting notice states that you should think “So You Think You Can Dance” – Producers for the show are seeking both equity and non equity dancers, of all ethnicities between the ages of 18 and 30ish. All genders are welcome to tryout and the audition time slots are divided into masculine and feminine dance tracks.
While the Broadway show auditions are primarily for dancers, the audition notice states that dancers may be also asked to sing…this is a musical.
“Wicked” is a re-telling of the L. Frank Baum’s classic story “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,“….. from the witches perspective. “Wicked” is based on the Gregory Maguire novel “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West“. The story begins before Dorothy ever set foot in OZ, but continues after her arrival.
