The College of Lake County holding auditions for teens and adults for their production of “School House Rock.”  The open call will be held at the college this week.

The College of Lake County, also known in the area as CLC, is a community college in Lake County, Illinois. Located in the greater Chicago metro area, the community college sits is 46 miles north of Chicago.

Schoolhouse Rock!is an educational animated television series that originally aired in the 1970s and 1980s. The show was created to help teach children important concepts in subjects like math, science, history, and grammar, in a fun and engaging way. Each episode consisted of a catchy, upbeat song that explained a particular topic, with vibrant animated visuals that brought the subject matter to life. The show became incredibly popular, with millions of viewers tuning in to learn about everything from multiplication to the American Revolution. Many adults who grew up watching the show have fond memories of the catchy tunes and vivid animations that helped them grasp complex concepts in a memorable and enjoyable way. To this day, “Schoolhouse Rock!” is celebrated for its innovative and entertaining approach to education, and it continues to be a beloved part of many people’s childhoods.

Auditions Notice:

Actors aged 13 and older are invited to audition for the College of Lake County (CLC) Theatre Department’s production of “Schoolhouse Rock Live.”

Auditions are at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 15 and Tuesday, May 16 in the Grayslake Studio Theatre.

A pop culture phenomenon, Schoolhouse Rock is an Emmy Award-winning Saturday morning cartoon series that taught history, grammar, math and more through clever, catchy songs now comes to the musical stage. Schoolhouse Rock Live! follows Tom, a schoolteacher who is nervous about his first day of teaching. He tries to relax by watching TV, when various characters emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music, through such songs as “Just a Bill,” “Lolly, Lolly, Lolly” and “Conjunction Junction.”

Those auditioning need to prepare one minute of a song from “Schoolhouse Rock Live” or from a show with a similar style of music and a one-minute memorized monologue of your choice. Piano accompanist will be provided. Actors need only attend one day of auditions and should bring an acting resumé if they have one. Callbacks are 6:30-10 p.m. on Thursday, May 18.

Rehearsals begin Wednesday, May 24. Rehearsals are Monday through Thursday evenings until tech and dress rehearsals, which are July 7-13. Performances are July 14-16 and 20-23. Actors should have these dates free before auditioning.
