CASTING CALL ESSENTIALLY YOURS, a one act play
Overview
It is early January 2021 and Covid-19 is a major concern although there is now hope in sight since there are new vaccines available. Another major concern is the shutdown of essential businesses, closing their doors for good. Al Jenkins, a chef and his wife, Rowena Jenkins a hair stylist are forced to work as Dasher’s for Door Dash, to deliver food orders to people’s homes. They have a 16-year-old son, Todd who wishes to become a veterinarian and does his schoolwork at home virtually.
Role: Todd – male, African-American, brown complexion, not taller than 6 ft., 18-25
16-year-old son of Al and Rowena, very intelligent and wise beyond his years, wants to be a veterinarian. He navigates the changing dynamic of home-life, school and relationships during the pandemic while keeping his father’s secret of a potentially catastrophic plan for his parents’ wedding anniversary.
Note: Young adults that look like teens are desired to apply
Non-Union Staged Play Reading – stipend: $50.00
Two to three rehearsals in midtown Manhattan studio, primarily on weekday evenings or weekend afternoons; Technical rehearsal on Friday, August 11, 2023, time TBA
