A young girl writes a letter to the editor of the New York Sun, inquiring about the existence of Santa Claus. Her poignant question sets the editor, Ed Mitchell, on a mission to find the answer. Mitchell assigns the task to Frank Church, a reporter teetering on self-destruction. Church’s journey and his response to Virginia’s query ultimately lead to one of the most cherished and quoted editorials in the world.

Fenady has written two of his award-winning productions as RADIO PLAYS where you can SEE as well as HEAR radio programs. The movie of the week starred Richard Thomas, Katharine Isobel, Charles Bronson and Ed Asner. A young girl writes a letter to the editor of the New York Sun. “Dear Editor, I am eight years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says if you see it in the Sun, it’s so. Please tell me the truth. Is there a Santa Claus?” Ed Mitchell, the editor, assigns Frank Church—a reporter on the verge of self destruction—the task of answering Virginia’s question. Church’s quest and reply have become one of the world’s most quoted and beloved editorials.
Prospective auditionees should come prepared for a cold reading from the script and bring a list of their schedule conflicts through December 2. To facilitate various group readings, it’s advisable to arrive as close to 6:30 PM as possible.
