CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

Zach (40’s. Male)
The director and choreographer of the show for which the dancers are auditioning. He is a stage veteran and thus can be curt and harsh, but he is revealed to be a caring and empathetic man who truly grows to care about these dancers. Ideally be able to dance the opening number and demonstrate steps.
Val Clark (20’s G#3-C#5)
Sassy, funny. A foul-mouthed but excellent dancer who couldn’t get performing jobs because of her looks until she had plastic surgery. A brazen, direct, attention-seeker from Vermont.
Connie Wong (20’s. C4-D5)
Experienced dancer. Petite. A bit of a mother hen with a great sense of humor. Born in Chinatown, New York. Should believably play 4’10’’.
Bobby Mills (25+ Eb3-C4)
Funny and witty. Very sharp-tongued. Covers everything over with a joke; had a very hard childhood. From upstate New York.
Gregory Gardener (25+ D3-E4)
Quite a smart-alec and has worked with Zach before. Very East Side New York. Sassy, Jewish, gay man.
Richie Walters (23+. D3-A4 riff/falsetto ability up to E5 ideally but not required)
From Missouri. Enthusiastic, cool and very funny. Likeable and laid back. African-American; strong dancer.
Al Deluca (25+. E3-G#4)
From the Bronx. Street tough, macho, and newly married to Kristine; very protective. Seeking a strong singer, as he is the contrast to the non-singing Kristine in “Sing.”
Don Kerr (25+. D3-F#4)
Ladies’ man, married, and into cars, money, and women. Very sure of himself. All American guy. Cocky because he has worked with Zach before. From Kansas City.
There is pay. Pay range is $500 to $700 and will be determined by the combination of a fuel honorarium for rehearsals, and a rate of $20/hour for performances.

From this audition we are also looking to cast the ‘cut dancers’ who do not make it to the actual line. These cut dancers will perform in the opening sequence of the show and will also double as pit singers backstage for the group numbers for all performances.
The cut dancers include the roles of Vicki, Tricia, Lois, Frank, Butch, Roy, and Tom. These roles require excellent dance and vocal ability and will receive a fuel honorarium to cover travel to rehearsals and performances.
