I’m pleased to announce auditions for a concert-style staged reading of my play, Sappho: The 10th Muse, as part of The OUTwright Theatre Festival presented by Fuse Theatre Ensemble.
Production Information:

This is a non-union production. All actors will be paid a stipend of $100 total for two rehearsals and a reading.
Rehearsals will be scheduled based on the performers’ availability and may occur over Zoom or in person. The reading is scheduled for June 18th at noon at Back Door Theatre on Hawthorne behind Common Grounds Coffee Shop in SE Portland.

Covid-19 Precautions:
Safety is a top priority. We will strictly follow all local and national guidelines for Covid-19 safety, including social distancing and mask requirements. Precautions will be adjusted as necessary according to the most recent public health information.

Character Breakdown:
AGAPE (Transwoman, Genderqueer, or Non-binary): A compassionate and spiritual individual, AGAPE embodies unconditional love. They are always there to support and comfort those around them, striving to bring out the best in others.
EROS (Cisgender Woman, Genderqueer, or Non-binary): Passionate and sensual, EROS personifies romantic and intimate love. They continuously seek connections and explore the depths of love, both physically and emotionally.
PHILIA (Transwoman or Cisgender Woman): A loyal and dependable friend, PHILIA signifies the bond of friendship and camaraderie. They serve as the glue that holds the group together, providing a sense of belonging and understanding among their peers.
STORGE (Transwoman, Genderqueer, or Non-binary): Embodying familial love, STORGE is the caring and nurturing figure in the group. They maintain a deep connection with their loved ones and often prioritize others’ needs over their own.
PHILAUTIA (Cisgender Woman, Genderqueer, or Non-binary): Struggling to find the balance between self-love and self-absorption, PHILAUTIA represents the complexities of self-compassion and vanity. They are on a journey to discover the true meaning of self-love and the importance of self-care.
XENIA (Transwoman or Cisgender Woman): A gracious and welcoming host, XENIA personifies hospitality and generosity. They believe in the importance of extending kindness and understanding to all, particularly those who are new to their community.

While the characters in this play were written with particular gender identities in mind, I want to stress that this is an inclusive production that seeks to provide opportunities for actors of all ethnicities and queer identities. Please don’t hesitate to audition if you feel a connection with any of these characters.
