A young man from a Saskatchewan makes the unlikely decision to become a professional actor. His journey takes him to a Canadian acting school, unemployment, and thankless day jobs that then lead to becoming a street performer in Hollywood, California, where the past becomes his future.
Available roles:
Jenny: Reggie’s classmate, talented acting student who partners with Reggie in hopes of making their dreams happen.
Earl: Reggie’s Dad, addicted to hockey on the big screen TV but a loving father.
Miles: Reggie’s younger brother dreams of being a bush pilot while growing up on the prairies.
David: Steals Jenny from Reggie after she finances Reggie’s bus trip to Hollywood. He is a gym owner in Toronto where Reggie & Jenny have found jobs. He is a smooth manipulator.
Pedro Peachum: A businessman who fields street performers in Hollywood.
This first production is non-paying but meals will be provided and box office profits will be shared.
The Royal Theatre is a new venture in a 150 year old historic building. “The Wannabe” is a play with songs, not a musical, and not interactive. It will be performed in The Royal Inn Dinner Theatre. A feature film production is planned to follow.
“The Wannabe” was written and will be directed by Lawrence Benedict who recently returned from a lifetime career in Hollywood as an Actor and Producer.
