WHAT
– BLACK NERDZ ARE EAZY: A Black Play On Punk Music (BNAE)
– an original theatre + music project co-written by Reebecca Black, Tyrone Brown and Erica Mounsey
– presented at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, September 7 – 24, 2023
* Please note, the show open one week earlier and ends a week after the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, so the production run is September 1st – 30th
WHO
– casting Black or Biracial male and non-binary or trans (FTM) performers between the ages of 18 – 35 for four characters / roles (see below)
– individuals with acting and /or music (playing instrument) experience is ideal but not required
– residents of Philly or live with a reasonable distance from the City of Philadelphia
Four Characters / Roles:
GRAVES – Black male, mid to late twenties, best friend of Octavius, co-founder of punk band, plays the drums, born and raised in North Philly, may or may not identify as gay, bisexual or questioning and probably geeks out on comic books, Marvel movies and anime. Oh, and he thinks Will Smith is a dickhead.
OCTAVIUS – Black or biracial male, mid to late twenties, best friend of Graves, co-founder of punk band, plays lead guitar, born and raised in Mount Airy area of Philly or possibly the suburbs, identifies as straight and loves record collecting, anime and Neil deGrasse Tyson. Oh, and he named after the statue on the South side of City Hall in Center City
CHRIS – Black, non-binary or trans, early to mid twenties, bass player, born and raised in Conshohocken or Bucks County, may identify as non-binary, trans or lesbian and loves gaming, skateboarding and collecting action figures. Oh, and they have a girlfriend named Blue
NASIR – Black male, mid twenties, lead singer of band, born and raised in West Philly and may or may not identify as poly, queer or don’t give a f*ck and geeks out on alternative music, gaming and cos-play. Oh, and he has a Justfor.fans account
WHEN
– regular rehearsals will be held mid-June thru August.
– rehearsals will probably four or five days a week depending on schedules
– combination of rehearsal the script and band practice (rehearsal space pending)
WHERE
– theatre rehearsal space pending
– the separate band practice space pending
production venue is being negotiated and will be announced mid-June
WHY
– BLACK NERDZ ARE EAZY: A Black Play On Punk Music, an original theatre + music project being presented at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival
– an honorarium, negotiating, will be provided for participating
-how powerful will it be to present an original theatre + music project about a fictional Black punk band in Philly?

What Your Audition Video Should Include
first say your full name, age and what role you are interested in
state the name of the monologue of your choice and perform for 1 – 2 minutes
state name of song of choice sing and/or play an instrument for 1 – 2 minutes
And then quickly answer these two questions.
