The Sheboygan Theater Company in Wisconsin holding actor auditions for their fall production of Misery.
“Misery,” a stage adaptation of Stephen King’s gripping novel, is a suspenseful and intense theatrical experience that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats. Character Breakdown
Paul Sheldon (Male, 30’s to 60’s) – A famed novelist, Paul is both incredibly charming but also self-absorbed. He is caught between being arrogant and yet ashamed of himself for his profession and personal life. Paul starts off the play with severe injuries but he adapts, evolves and survives his ‘prison’ with cunning and determination.
WARNING: This character requires lots of physical acting & swearing
Annie Wilkes (Female, 30s-50’s) – A former nurse who off the bat seems like a hero after saving Paul. She comes off as awkward but caring, sweet and naive. As luck would have it, she is also Paul Sheldon’s # 1 fan. Eventually Annie reveals herself to be unstable, manipulative, selfish and sometimes extremely cruel.
WARNING: This character has some physical tasks and fight scenes.
Buster (Male, any age adult) – The local sheriff of the small town. Buster is very friendly and while he comes off as a bit folksy, he’s smarter than he looks. Smaller role in the show.
