Currently running Off-Broadway, “Sistas: the Musical”, a celebration of African American women through popular Top-40 music. After a matriarch’s death, the women in the family clean Grandma’s attic and find love and old memories packed away, and in the process, hit tunes that trace the history of black women, from the trials of the 1930s through the Girl Groups of the 60s, to the empowerment of the 90s. Songs include “Oh, Happy Day,” “Mama Said,” “I Will Survive,” “Tyrone,” “I Am Not My Hair” and “A Woman’s Worth.”?
Audition Description:
Seeking actor/singers for various roles in Sistas The Musical. The cast is comprised of five female characters: four African Americans, one Caucasian and a small choir. All must be excellent singers in pop, jazz, and R&B styles and also be able to dance while singing.

Gloria – Female Lead, (Casting Age: 30 – Late 50s)
Mezzo Soprano / 1st Alto: She is a devoutly religious woman who is just coming out of the grief of losing her loving husband, and now her beloved grandmother.
Ethnicity: Black / African Descent

Heather – Female Lead, (Casting Age 25 – Early 40s)
Alto-Mezzo / Soprano / Belter: Simone’s sister-in-law and therefore one of the Sistas. She’s worked very hard to be accepted into the family. She is spunky and full of life. She is a social worker.
Ethnicity: White / European Descent

Choir – Female Small Choir (6 – 9 Singers)
Soprano / Alto / Tenor: Choir comes in at the end of the show to perform one number.

Payment: Paid – (Lead Roles Only – No Travel or Lodging Provided)
What to Prepare:
* Two songs: One up-tempo, One ballad. Songs should be pop, jazz, folk, or gospel – Playback system for tracks will be available. We will have a keyboard available but no accompanist. If you wish to bring your own accompanist that would be fine.
* A short-prepared monologue or short personal story, 2 minutes or less
* Bring comfortable clothes for the dance section of the audition.
