ROLE 1: SHOWROOM ASSOCIATE (FEMALE, AGE 25 – 35, ANY ETHNICITY, STYLISH, POISED, FRIENDLY WITH A BRIGHT SMILE):

Character Description:
An expert at guiding clients through the selection process. A skilled listener who can interpret feelings and emotions – helping clients find exactly what they want and need. She knows how to read floor plans and understands the physical specifications and requirements of any project.
She is in her late twenties or early thirties, stylish, professional, and eager to help.

Location:
Ferguson Bath, Kitchen, & Lighting Gallery – aka Ferguson Showroom
(https://www.fergusonshowrooms.com/).

Audition Scene:
You are a Showroom Associate meeting with a new client for the first time. A couple that has been “sent to you” by a custom home Builder. Technically speaking, the Builder is your actual client, and he is counting on you to provide exceptional customer service to his client – the
couple. The Builder sees you as an extension of his business, and you must not let him down.

This matters because you work with this Builder often. He sends you all his customers. Every client that he builds a home for is sent to you – to choose their lighting, bath and kitchen fixtures, and appliances. This relationship is important, and you know that the Builder is counting on you to provide exceptional service to his clients. To listen to their needs, to understand their wants and desires. Play out the scene by listening to these Customers and reacting to what they have said. They ask tons of questions – some technical in nature, others that are about aesthetics. For example,
“What would you recommend for this space” or “what is on trend these days”? Show a range of emotions that are appropriate to the situation. Show active listening and produce thoughtful responses. Be helpful, cheerful, and charming, but – be professional throughout. Exude confidence, let your body language speak to your skill and abilities.

ROLE 2: BUILDER (MALE, AGE 40 – 60, ANY ETHNICITY, EXPERIENCED, KNOWLEDGEABLE, RUGGED, PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES OF A WORKING MAN, COMFORTABLE IN A TAYLORED JACKET OR STEEL TOE BOOTS):

Character Description:
Custom Home Building & Design Professional – He has seen and done it all in his 20+ years in the business. He started young in the trades – carpentry, electrical, plumbing or something similar. Switched to house building and built his business from the ground up. He now builds custom homes for affluent clients.

Location:
Residential construction site, a new home being built. The drywall has just been hung and
finished. Floors are going in and the trim is being installed.

Audition Scene:
You are on the jobsite – a new custom home you are building for your hive of activity. The symphony of power tools and hammers pounding is music to your ears. They make a beat…a rhythm, a kind of music that you live for. Things are getting done and that makes you happy. You are a man of action and completely at home right in the middle of the chaos that is a construction site.

You are there to check-up on the job and to meet with your client, the ones who are paying for this project – the Customers. They are affluent, wealthy, and demand the absolute best. They have chosen you to build their dream home and expect you to deliver. That’s a lot of pressure,
but you are up for the task. You grew up around this business. Your dad was a carpenter and was fond of saying our family “has saw dust in our veins.” It’s a big responsibility, making someone’s dream a reality and ensuring that the job gets done right, on time and… on budget.
When all is said and done, your number one goal is to make the client happy. Perform a scene in which you are reviewing plans with your client. Show them the progress that is being made on the job. Like all clients and all projects, concerns are raised, and things go wrong. Handle these issues like a professional. Your Customers should leave feeling like everything is under control and hiring you was the best decision they ever made.
Physically point out the things you want to call attention to too. Ask the Customers questions. “What do you think about moving the fridge to this side of the kitchen…In my opinion that opens up the space.” Listen to their responses and respond appropriately.

ROLES 3 & 4: CUSTOMER(S) (HETEROSEXUAL COUPLE – MALE AND FEMALE, ANY ETHNICITY, (Real couples encouraged to submit but also accepting individuals to be grouped as couple)

AGES 45 – 55, MODERN, EDUCATED, AFFLUENT, STYLISH IN APPEARANCE):

Character Description:
A modern and affluent couple in their late 40s/early 50s, on a journey to build their dream home. They have impeccable taste and know what they like but seek out professional advice and services when making large purchase decisions. You are working with a custom home builder and an interior designer. Both professionals “use” Ferguson, not only as their supplier of choice for bath, kitchen, and lighting products – but also as a trusted partner.

Location #1:
Ferguson Bath, Kitchen, & Lighting Gallery – aka Ferguson Showroom
(https://www.fergusonshowrooms.com/).

Audition Scene #1:

You are playing the Customer(s). Smart, affluent, and well educated. You are comfortable in most any situation, have a successful career, and in general are a rock star at everything you try. But you are also completely unprepared for this experience, and that is why you are working with a Builder, who in turn, has sent you to Ferguson. It’s just shopping after all, but the choices are endless. Traditional, transitional, or modern –
what’s “your style” asks the Showroom Associate. You think to yourself “I’m not sure” and so you just point and say, “I like this.” Next comes questions about the finishes you prefer, hole spacing, and a million other things you hadn’t considered. Thank God for this Showroom
Associate. Without her, this might have been a horrible experience – but with her guidance, oh, this is going to be fun.

Act out a scene in which you are shopping in a Ferguson Bath, Kitchen, & Lighting Gallery. You are overwhelmed by the choices. Thankfully, you have a guide. Show me your active listening skills. I want to see body language that communicates an exciting and enjoyable shopping experience. Show me a range of facial expressions, but remember, in a Ferguson Showroom there is never a bad choice…only a better one.
So, never show a frown or a face that displays disgust or dislike. Do show thoughtful consideration, joy, delight, inspiration, and satisfaction. Ask questions, listen intently, and shop
for your dream kitchen.

Location #2:
Residential construction site, a new home being built. The drywall has just been installed and finished. Floors are going in and the trim is being installed.

Audition Scene #1:
Act out a scene in which you are meeting with your Builder. The professional you hired to make your dream home a reality. You are inside your new home, but it is still under construction. You are meeting to review the plans and discuss some potential changes. Your Builder is giving you an overall progress report but also looking to guide you through some issues he has noticed.
Listen to him, ask questions, and get excited about the progress that is being made. Feel free to include an off-camera voice to help you play the scene.

PROJECT 2 – SHOWROOM

Character Description:
A modern and affluent couple in their late 30s/early 40s. Smart, educated, and prepared…this couple likes to do their research before making any purchase decisions. And they don’t mind spending a bit more if that means they will get quality products that will last. But style and function are also important, as are convenience and an easy ordering process. That is why they are shopping at Build with Ferguson (https://www.build.com/).

Location: Local Coffee shop or Cafe’

Audition Scene #1:
You have been researching brands, styles, and prices for months. Your primary bathroom remodel is underway, and you must decide soon – “what are we going to buy?” You’ve been using the Project Planner Tool on Build.com to organize your favorites, but a decision has not been made.
Play a scene in which you discuss the options with your spouse. What are the pros and cons of the various products? Topics of discussion could be functionality, aesthetics, and price. Point to the screen, scroll the site, and discuss your opinions and thoughts. This is not a fight or an
intense argument. This process is fun and there is a lot to choose from. Show a range of emotions – using both your body language and facial expressions. Make choices that clearly communicate your emotions quickly.

Audition Scene #2:
Now pretend you are on a call with a Ferguson Product Expert. You are still in the cafe’ or coffee shop and you still have your computer in front of you. The product expert provides you with some advice, making suggestions for items that fit your style and budget. Use your computer to navigate to the products they suggest. Give the Ferguson Product Expert some feedback. What do you think of the products they have shown you? Do you like this style? Does it fit your budget?
