Albany Civic Theater is excited to announce auditions for The Pillowman, a dark comedy by acclaimed playwright Martin McDonagh, directed by Ellen Cribbs.
Auditions will be held on Monday, December 9th, and Tuesday, December 10th at 7 p.m. at Albany Civic Theater, located at 235 Second Ave, Albany.
The production will run from February 14th to March 2nd, 2024, with performances on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Rehearsals will begin in December, with a break for the holidays, and will accommodate actor availability.
Roles available include Katurian, a passionate writer; Tupploski, a sardonic investigator; Ariel, an explosive and brutal “bad cop”; Michal, Katurian’s intellectually disabled sibling; and the minor roles of Mother and Father, which may be double cast and involve puppetry.
The Pillowman takes place in a totalitarian state where a writer, Katurian, is interrogated about his gruesome stories, which bear striking similarities to recent child murders. This brutal and darkly comic play poses profound questions about the power of storytelling, the nature of truth, and the value of life itself.
