Casting Call: Auditions for “Funny Girl” Musical
Players of Utica is thrilled to announce auditions for the timeless musical “Funny Girl.”
Join the theater for this opportunity to bring Fanny Brice’s inspiring story to life on stage. Auditions will be held at the Players Theater. Players of Utica, a non-profit community theater with a rich history of theatrical excellence since 1907, located in Utica, New York.
“Funny Girl” offers diverse roles for actors, singers, showgirls, and dancers aged 16 and above. With music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Bob Merrill, and a captivating book by Isobel Lennart, this Tony Award-winning musical delves into the life and career of the legendary Fanny Brice, exploring her tumultuous relationship with gambler Nicky Arnstein. Our June production, directed by Dan Fusillo with music direction by Karen Corigliano and choreography by Patrick St. Thomas, promises to be an unforgettable experience for both performers and audiences alike.

- Fanny Brice: comedic style, acting range from impassioned teen to major star
- Emma: Fanny’s dresser and confidant
- John: stage manager
- Mrs. Brice: Fanny’s tough Brooklyn mother, dry humor
- Mrs. Strakosh: Mrs. Brice’s poker-playing crony, shrill yet funny
- Mrs. Meeker: another of Mrs. Brice’s cohorts
- Mrs. O’Malley: fourth friend, Irish accent
- Tom Kenney: tough vaudeville producer
- Eddie Ryan: song and dance man, energetic
- Bubbles, Polly, Maude: classic showgirl types
- Nick Arnstein: gambler, suave, love of Fanny’s life
- Florenz Ziegfeld: the famous producer, elegant, imposing.
- Mr. Renaldi: talent agent (non-singing role)

No prepared audition song will be needed. Sections of I’m The Greatest Star, Henry Street, If A Girl Isn’t Pretty, and I Want To Be Seen With You from the score will used at the audition. John Krause will accompany.
