Auditions in the Winston-Salem area of North Carolina for someone with a great voice to be a sports announcer.

Wake Forest Athletics holding open auditions to expand its roster of public address announcers for the 2024-25 academic year and the years to follow.

Do you love sports and happen to live in the Winston-Salem area? If so, there is a talent job opening up with the Wake Forest Athletics as a public announcer for their games.

This is your chance to be the voice behind the Demon Deacons’ home football and baseball games.  That’s right, they are seeking someone who can work across multiple sports which means you would have to have really great knowledge of both football and baseball.

Those hired will be announcing the starting lineups, announcing in-game action, and making other in-venue announcements as needed. During auditions, candidates will read a sample script over the PA system and have a brief interview with Wake Forest Athletics staff members.

The athletic organization is currently taking online auditions and have set up an application form that those interested can fill out from the comfort of home.

Seeking announcers who have the following skills:

  • Strong vocal ability, enunciation, enthusiasm and comfort addressing large crowds.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of rules for selected sports and ability to understand in-game action.
  • Ability to follow a script, react quickly and readily accept feedback.
  • Experience working as a PA announcer at the high school, collegiate or professional level is preferred.
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends and some holidays.
  • Live within a commutable distance of Winston-Salem.

The casting notice also states that public address announcers will report to Lonnie Penner, Assistant AD for Fan Experience and Sales, as well as the respective Wake Forest Fan Experience and Sales representative assigned to each sport. Compensation is based on the number of games worked, and a background check is required. Contracts are renewed annually by Wake Forest Athletics.

Interested applicants must complete and submit a standard questionnaire at GODEACS.COM/PA. Once applications are reviewed, selected candidates will be asked to provide work samples before attending an on-campus audition session.
