Open auditions coming to Pine Bluff, Arkansas – ARTx3 Campus invites performers to audition for a modern readers’ theater adaptation of Prometheus Bound, the timeless Greek tragedy by Aeschylus, reimagined through a contemporary lens with Bryan Doerries’ powerful translation.
About the Production
This innovative rendition of Prometheus Bound transforms the myth of the Titan punished for gifting humanity with fire into a stirring commentary on social justice. Exploring themes of resilience, courage, and systemic inequity, the production offers a poignant and reflective tribute to the struggles and triumphs of Black men in America and marginalized communities, including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC).

The ARTx3 Campus is seeking performers for a stylized readers’ theater presentation of Prometheus Bound, the timeless Greek tale by Aeschylus, in a modern translation by Bryan Doerries.This innovative production reimagines the story of Prometheus—imprisoned for giving humanity the spark of life—as a reflection of the social injustices faced by Black men in America. Casting Information
- Available Roles:
- Prometheus: The defiant Titan who sacrifices himself for humanity.
- Io: A mortal woman tormented by the gods, seeking solace and justice.
- Zeus: The unseen yet omnipresent ruler whose power looms over all.
- Hermes: A cunning messenger of the gods, embodying authority and persuasion.
- Chorus Leader: The voice of collective conscience and witness to the unfolding drama.
- Oceanus: A sympathetic yet conflicted friend of Prometheus.
- Hephaestus: The reluctant enforcer, torn between duty and compassion.
- Chorus Members: Serve as narrators and participants, providing emotional depth to the storytelling.
Performers must be 18 or older. The production encourages participation from individuals of all backgrounds and levels of experience, with a focus on diversity and inclusivity.
Audition Format
