Mad for plaid? Love the smell of pine in the Northwoods? Ready to make an audience laugh? We want to see you at BDACT’s auditions for Lumberjacks in Love.
AUDITIONS AUGUST 26–28
Prepare your audition now for this hilarious musical! Choose August 25, 26, or 27 to arrive by 7 pm and be part of the audition process. All will be asked to act, sing, and dance in a group using portions of the script provided for you. Please prepare a minute of your own song for an audition solo and wear appropriate shoes and clothes for a little dance routine lesson. Yooper, Norwegian, or Kentuckian accent attempts are welcome! We can’t wait to see what emotions and character choices you bring to your audition night!
Roles:
The Shanty Boys:
- Minnesota Slim: The boss of the shanty crew. Strong, physical, terrified of women. Lyric baritone/tenor
- Dirty Bob: Hasn’t bathed in at least 22 years. Not bright, childlike. Good at physical comedy. Baritone/Bass
- Muskrat: Philosophical, angst-ridden but strong and capable, enduring his 40th birthday. Baritone/Bass
- Moonlight: Strong of back, soft of heart. Chops down trees, reads romance novels. Playable age- 20s. Lyric baritone/tenor
The females:
- The Kid: Lovely and earnest girl who successfully masquerades as a boy. Naive, ignorant about female manners and fashion. Should be at least 18 years old (kisses another actor). Mezzo.
- Rose: The mail order bride. Romance novelist from back east. Strong willed, cynical – has been unlucky in love. Large vocal range (low and high) with a strong belt.
Note: all persons cast will be required to have hair color and cuts befitting 1900 north woods by tech week. Natural colors, well-groomed. Nothing blue, asymetrical, or faux hawk. All actors may be required to provide their own work-boots as part of their costume.
