The upcoming feature film Apopka begins filming in Charlotte, NC end of this month.

This biographical drama will star Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria, The White Lotus) as legendary female boxer Christy Martin, whose groundbreaking career and personal battles are at the heart of the story.

Directed by David Michod (Animal Kingdom, The King) and produced by Black Bear and Anonymous Content, Apopka explores Martin’s rise to fame as the first female boxer to gain widespread recognition, overcoming significant challenges both in and out of the ring. Often called “The Coal Miner’s Daughter,” Martin’s journey includes her fight for respect in the male-dominated sport of boxing and her survival of a violent attack by her then-husband.
