The St. Cecilia Chamber Choir in Damariscotta, Maine will be holding vocal auditions for the upcoming Fauré “Requiem.”
The concerts are currently scheduled to be held on on May 4 and 5, accompanied by a stellar chamber orchestra.
Auditions for all voice parts are now open, and we eagerly welcome both seasoned performers and gifted students to join our ranks.
Ideal candidates for auditions should possess good vocal control, with a special emphasis on sopranos and altos being able to sing without vibrato. While the ability to read music is preferred, those without this skill can still participate by dedicating extra time to learning the music at home, utilizing the provided practice materials.
Founded in 1995, the St. Cecilia Chamber Choir is a fully auditioned community ensemble that welcomes voices from talented youth to seasoned performers. Under the guidance of the husband-and-wife team Linda Blanchard and Sean Fleming of Damariscotta, we specialize in performing challenging choral repertoire from medieval to modern, adhering to the English choral tradition with a straight tone for finely tuned harmonies. Our repertoire often includes a cappella pieces, and we frequently collaborate with a professional chamber orchestra. Throughout the year, we present two to three concerts, showcasing the very best in choral music.
Be sure to check out the singers auditions page for any other singer casting calls and productions.
The featured centerpiece of upcoming concerts is the Fauré Requiem, a timeless masterpiece first performed in 1888. Unlike other compositions of its time, Fauré infused his Requiem with gentle and soothing qualities, describing it as “as gentle as I am myself.” Paired with the Requiem is the exquisite Cantique de Jean Racine, composed by Fauré in 1865.
Rehearsals will begin on January 17, taking place from 7 to 9 p.m. every Wednesday evening at St. Andrew’s Church in Newcastle. Our dedicated and friendly choir is known for its high-energy and challenging rehearsals, led by Artistic Director Linda Blanchard. While we work diligently, the atmosphere is always upbeat and fun. We provide practice materials to ensure that singers feel prepared and ready to showcase their talents during rehearsals.
