Acadia Community Theater Announces Auditions for “The Wizard of Oz”

Acadia Community Theater invites performers of all ages to audition for its upcoming spring production of The Wizard of Oz. Auditions will be held on Monday, January 6, and Thursday, January 9, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Northeast Harbor Library.
Based on L. Frank Baum’s cherished 1900 novel and adapted from MGM’s iconic 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz tells the enchanting story of Dorothy Gale, a Kansas farm girl swept away by a tornado to the magical Land of Oz. Along with her loyal dog Toto, Dorothy journeys to find the Wizard in hopes of returning home. Along the way, she befriends the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion, who join her in overcoming challenges set by the Wicked Witch of the West. Together, they discover the power of friendship, courage, and self-belief.
This timeless musical features unforgettable songs like “Over the Rainbow,” “If I Only Had a Brain,” and “We’re Off to See the Wizard,” as well as beloved ensemble characters that bring the vibrant world of Oz to life.

The production will be co-directed by Matt and Angel Hochman, with Kate Young serving as producer. Rehearsals are scheduled to begin the week of January 13, with performances slated for the spring.
Those auditioning are encouraged to arrive early to complete registration and take time to warm up. Roles are available for performers of all ages, with the requirement that children must be at least 7 years old by May 2025 to participate.
