Basin Community Theatre (BCT) is excited to announce auditions for its upcoming production of Mary Poppins.
Auditions will be held on December 2.
Directed by Toby Black, who also serves as president of BCT, this family-friendly show aims to entertain and bring joy to audiences of all ages. “We wanted to do something special for families, especially a show that younger kids could enjoy,” Black said. “Mary Poppins is the perfect fit.”
This stage musical closely follows the beloved 1964 Disney film, with a story set in Victorian London. It centers on the Banks family—Mr. and Mrs. Banks and their children, Jane and Michael—whose nanny quits after struggling with the children’s mischievous behavior. Everything changes when Mary Poppins arrives, floating down with her magical umbrella and an impossibly large bag. Alongside her friend Bert the chimney sweep, Mary Poppins leads the children on whimsical adventures, ultimately teaching the Banks family about the joy of togetherness.
The production, known for its magical effects, will require significant technical work, particularly the aerial sequences when Mary Poppins and Bert take flight. Black shared that they plan to bring in a special effects team from California to help bring this magic to life. “We’re working with Moses Lake High School to make sure everything is safe and feasible,” Black said, adding that Bert might also be flying in the show.
Preperation:
Auditions will be held at DanceFX Studio in Moses Lake, and BCT is seeking performers for 16 roles in addition to Mary, Bert, and the Banks family. Auditioners are asked to prepare 18 bars of a Broadway song, either a cappella or accompanied by recorded music on a Bluetooth-capable device. Participants should also submit a completed participation form and a headshot.
All cast members must be available from March 31 to April 19, with no scheduling conflicts.
