Drama Works Theatre Company (Old Saybrook, Ct.) seeks non-Equity actors to laugh, cry, and sing a song of resilience in Harvey Fierstein’s Tony Award-winning play “Torch Song.”
For Arnold Beckoff, navigating the minefield of living as a proud gay man in the 70s isn’t a walk in Central Park. But even though the challenges of being a lover, a son, and a mother keep dragging him down, he just can’t walk in flats.
Auditions: Saturday, October 5, 12:00–3:00pm; Sunday, October 6, 12:00–3:00pm
Performances: Jan. 31, Feb. 1-2; Feb. 7-9; Friday/Saturday at 7:30pm; Sunday at 3:00pm
Seeking actors to play the following characters (all roles available):
ARNOLD BECKOFF
20s-30s, Jewish drag queen, a kvetch of great wit with a boundless heart
ED REISS
30s-40s, Arnold’s sometime bisexual lover, a teacher, conflicted, grounded but yearning
MRS. BECKOFF
60s, Arnold’s widowed Jewish mother, loves Arnold but struggles with his “lifestyle”
ALAN
20s, Arnold’s lover, a young hustler and model with a deep capacity for understanding Arnold
LAUREL
30s, Ed’s somewhat naive lover who tries to understand his feelings for Arnold
DAVID
teens, Arnold’s adopted son, also gay, very funny in a “street” way, strong and wise beyond his years
