Casting Notice: “Newsies: The Musical” at Quad City Music Guild
Join us for auditions for the Tony Award-winning adaptation of the Disney musical, directed by Erin Platt, running from July 5th to July 15th. Those interested in dance ensemble or principal roles should be prepared to learn a short routine; tap shoes are welcome, and please note any specialty skills (jumps, tumbling, etc.) during auditions. Callbacks on February 25th as needed.
About the Show:
“Newsies,” based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman, with a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. The musical is filled with classic songs such as “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe,” delivering non-stop thrills and a timeless message suitable for the whole family.

Prepare 16-32 measures of a song in the style of the show that highlights your vocal skills and musicality. Please bring legible sheet music for the accompanist provided; pre-recorded accompaniment will not be accepted.

General Audition Information:
“Newsies” demands a strong ensemble of actor-dancers capable of creating characters through movement. Performers should exhibit endurance and maintain strong vocals while dancing. While the musical is known for its athletic choreography, there are also opportunities for non-dancers in various supporting roles, including newspaper customers, policemen, guards, and more. Strong vocals are essential for both on-and offstage singing.
Role Requirements:
Auditionees must be in 6th grade or older, with a minimum age requirement of 10 years old or 5th grade for the role of Les. The ensemble of newsies is open to boys and girls, with roles typically portraying teenagers and young adults.
