Storybook Musical Theatre is holding auditions for its 2024-2025 season.
seeking non-union professional actors and singers of all cultural backgrounds and ethnicities. Performers must have some daytime availability for rehearsals and performances, and actors will be paid. Auditions will be held in Willow Grove, PA on September 21 and 23, 2024. To secure an audition appointment, actors must email a headshot, resume, and preferred audition time by September 18th. Auditionees should prepare a short song (16-32 bars) and be ready to read from provided sides. Storybook encourages diversity and seeks performers who can bring varied perspectives to their roles.
The upcoming season includes classic productions like Snow White, Elves and the Shoemaker, and The Wizard of Oz. Notable roles include Snow White (Caucasian, female, ingénue, soprano) and her vain counterpart, the Queen (any ethnicity, female, mezzo-soprano). Other roles range from zany miners and elves to beloved characters like Dorothy, the Tinman, and the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz. Storybook values inclusivity and aims to reflect that in its casting for these family-friendly productions.

the block of time you are available to audition and your headshot and resume. The deadline to email for an audition appointment is September 18th, 2024. After September 18th, no email requests will be accepted, but you may call to make an appointment at 215-659-8550.
PREPARATION
Prepare a short song, 16 to 32 bars, to show your vocal range. Be prepared to read from the sides that will be provided during the audition. Please bring your headshot and resume stapled together. An accompanist will be provided.
Snow White – Roles:
Snow White – (Caucasian female) ingénue, soprano; friendly, kind, trusting, and loving princess. Must be at least 5’6” or taller to play 18 to 25.
Queen – (any ethnicity, female)belt mezzo-soprano/soprano; vain, selfish, jealous, uses her royal powers ruthlessly. To play 35 to 45.
Miners – Sunny & Braggy – (any ethnicity, gender dynamic), baritone or mezzo-soprano, preferably 5’4” or smaller; Sunny is very happy, peppy, optimistic, and the leader of the miners. Braggy is a braggart and has a very strong personality, 25 to 40
Miners Hungry & Bossy – (any ethnicity, gender dynamic), baritone or mezzo-soprano, preferably 5’4” or smaller; Hungry is a happy-go-lucky miner who is always hungry. He/She loves to eat anything. Bossy is always trying to take control of the situation, and she/he too is a very strong personality, 25 to 40
Miners Pokey, Ari & Jumpy – (any ethnicity, gender dynamic), baritone or mezzo-soprano, preferably 5’4” or smaller; Pokey is a little slow in gait as well as in mind but is very loveable. Ari is mute and mimes anything that needs to be spoken. He/she is very smart. Jumpy is very nervous and is frightened very easily. He/she does not like new situations, 25 to 40
Mirror, Huntsman, Prince – (any ethnicity, male)baritone-tenor; the haunting voice and image of the magic mirror. The Huntsman is dutiful to the Queen but has a very human conscience. The Prince is a typical fairy tale character being a little larger than life, 25 to 35
Elves and the Shoemaker – Roles:
• Joseph Cobbler – (any ethnicity, male) baritone, poor, hard-working, all-around nice guy. to play 30 to 40.
• Peach Cobbler – (any ethnicity, female) mezzo-soprano/soprano, Joseph’s wife, hard-working, supportive, to play 30 to 40.
• Elvish/Jacob the printer – (any ethnicity, male)Comic Character actor, Bari-tenor. One of two zany elves and the town neighbor who is a hearty,
happy man. Should be 5’4 or shorter. To play child-like ages 25 to 30.
• Sprite/Governor’s – (any ethnicity, female) Comic character actress. Mezzo-soprano. The second of the zany duo of elves and a lady sent from
the Governor’s office. Should be 5’4 or shorter. To Play ages 25 to 30.
• Mr. Lowenweill/Traveler – (any ethnicity, male)Character actor. Baritone. Mean, vile landlord of Joseph and Peach Cobbler and an over-emoting, over-the-hill actor. To play ages 40 to 55.
Wizard of Oz – Roles:
• Dorothy – (any ethnicity, female) ingenue, soprano, a genuine real person to play age 16 to 25
• Auntie Em/Good Witch – (any ethnicity, female)character actress, mezzo-soprano, to play age35-55
• Mrs. Glitch/Wicked Witch – (any ethnicity, female)character actress, mezzo-soprano, ugly inside, to play age 35-55
• Hickory/Tinman – (any ethnicity, male)tenor, if there were one, he’d be the leading man to play age 25 to 25
• Corny/Scarecrow – (any ethnicity, male) baritone, witty, gentle & agile to play age 25 to 35
• Leo/Cowardly Lion – (any ethnicity, male)character actor, baritone, nervous, scared easily to play age 25 to 35
• Professor/Wizard of Oz – (any ethnicity, gender dynamic) non-singing, kind-hearted con person, to play age 35-55
