Ripon Community Theatre in Wisconsin Holding Open Auditions for “The Wizard of Oz”

Audition Announcement: The Wizard of Oz by Ripon Area Community Theatre

The Ripon Area Community Theatre (RACT) is thrilled to announce auditions for its summer musical production of The Wizard of Oz. Auditions will be held from Friday, June 28, to Monday, July 1, at the First Congregational Church, 220 Ransom St., Ripon. The production welcomes performers of all ages, from 8 to adult, to join in bringing this timeless classic to life. Performances are scheduled for August 16-18 at Ripon High School.

Audition Dates and Times:

  • Children’s Auditions:
    • Friday, June 28: 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
    • Saturday, June 29: 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Adult Auditions:
    • Sunday, June 30: 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
    • Monday, July 1: 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Location: First Congregational Church, 220 Ransom St., Ripon, WI.

Performance Dates: August 16-18, 2024, at Ripon High School, 850 Tiger Drive, Ripon, WI.

Production Overview: Directed by Brian Reilly, The Wizard of Oz is a beloved musical that offers a rich array of roles for both children and adults. From iconic lead characters to engaging chorus parts, this production provides a fantastic opportunity for community members of all ages to participate. As Director Brian Reilly notes, “This is a great, classic musical with roles suitable for everyone—whether you prefer acting, singing, or just being part of the magic on stage.”

  • Lead Roles:
    • Dorothy Gale
    • Aunt Em/Glinda
    • Uncle Henry
    • Mrs. Gulch/Wicked Witch
    • Scarecrow
    • Tinman
    • Lion
  • Chorus and Ensemble Roles: Various roles for different ages, suitable for those interested in speaking, non-speaking, or non-singing parts.

Audition Preparation: Auditioners should come prepared with up to two minutes of a vocal piece that showcases their voice. Songs can be from The Wizard of Oz or in a similar style and should be appropriate for a general audience. No prior experience is necessary; however, enthusiasm and readiness to perform will be key.

Rehearsal Schedule: Rehearsals will begin in the last week of June and typically occur on weekday evenings, with some weekend sessions as required. Not all cast members will need to attend every rehearsal initially, allowing flexibility in participation.
