The TV show the Gilded Age is now in production for it’s 3rd season and they will be filming in Rhode Island.
Are you a fan of the series “The Gilded Age?” Well, if you live in Rhode Island you have a chance to actually get a small, paid role on set of the HBO/Max show. “The Gilded Age” will be filming in the Newport, Rhode Island area this fall and casting directors are now seeking locals who have the time to work on set as paid background actors. No acting experience is actually required.
“The Gilded Age”: A Glimpse into America’s Age of Excess
The Gilded Age, created by Julian Fellowes, the brilliant mind behind Downton Abbey, transports viewers to the opulent world of late 19th-century America. Set during one of the most transformative periods in U.S. history, the series delves into a time defined by rapid economic growth, social upheaval, and fierce competition between old and new money.
The show is centered around the elite circles of New York City and beyond, where traditional aristocratic families are pitted against the ambitious, self-made industrialists who are reshaping society. This clash between the established “old money” families—rooted in heritage and legacy—and the “new money” entrepreneurs, who amassed fortunes through industries like railroads, steel, and oil, fuels much of the drama. These tensions manifest in social hierarchies, lavish parties, and the fight for influence in a changing world.

Casting Call: Extras Needed for “The Gilded Age” in Newport, Rhode Island
Grant Wilfley Casting is seeking Newport, RI locals to portray 1880s background extras for the upcoming season of HBO’s The Gilded Age. This is a paid opportunity with filming scheduled in Newport between October 9-28, 2024, and November 18-26, 2024.
Casting Call Details:
- Filming Location: Newport, Rhode Island
- Filming Dates: October 9-28 and November 18-26, 2024
- Costume Fittings: Begin September 23, 2024, in Newport (required prior to filming)
Pay Rates:
- SAG-AFTRA Fitting Pay: $52/2 hours
- SAG-AFTRA Shoot Day Pay: $216/8 hours
- Non-SAG Fitting Pay: $40/2.5 hours
- Non-SAG Shoot Day Pay: $176/10 hours
Requirements:
- Must be comfortable working around smoke and have no allergies to wool.
- Natural hair colors only (no highlights, modern hairstyles, or visible tattoos).
- Willingness to receive a period-appropriate haircut.
- Women will be fitted with corsets and bustles.
