About the Play:

In Ripcord, tensions rise in a coveted room at the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility. Abby, a sharp-tongued and solitary resident, is horrified when cheerful newcomer Marilyn moves in. Determined to claim the room for herself, Abby strikes a bet with Marilyn that sets off a hilarious and escalating battle of wits and pranks. What begins as a lighthearted competition soon reveals deeper truths, forcing both women to confront their vulnerabilities in this poignant and comedic exploration of relationships, aging, and resilience.

Roles Available (3 Men, 3 Women):

  • Abby Binder (Lead, 60s-70s)
Abby is a sarcastic, cranky retired schoolteacher who values solitude and resents Marilyn’s presence. A loner at heart, she has a dry wit, a stubborn streak, and unresolved issues with her son Benjamin, a recovering addict.
  • Marilyn Dunne (Lead, 60s-70s)
Warm, bubbly, and endlessly upbeat, Marilyn is the perfect foil to Abby’s cantankerous nature. Behind her cheerful demeanor, she harbors a competitive edge and mischievous spirit. A loving mother to Colleen, Marilyn brings unexpected energy to their escalating bet.
  • Scotty (Supporting, 20s-30s)
The friendly, hard-working aide at Bristol Place. Scotty is upbeat, compassionate, and determined to mediate between Abby and Marilyn. An amateur actor, he enthusiastically takes on roles in the haunted house scene.
  • Colleen (Supporting, 30s-40s)
Marilyn’s caring and lively daughter. Colleen is upbeat and supportive but shares her mother’s competitive streak and prankster personality. She doubles as The Woman in White in the haunted house scene.
  • Derek (Supporting, 30s-40s)
Colleen’s loyal, easygoing husband. Derek is supportive of Marilyn and Colleen’s efforts, with a playful, jokester side. He also doubles as The Zombie Butler and The Masked Man in the haunted house scene.
  • Benjamin (Supporting, 30s-40s)
Abby’s estranged son, struggling to rebuild his relationship with her after overcoming addiction. Benjamin is remorseful, caring, and eager to prove himself. He also portrays Lewis the Skydiving Instructor (bold and adventurous) and The Clown in the haunted house scene.
